Activities available locally

There are a variety of activities and courses available locally. Whilst staying at the cottage why not consider making a hedgerow chair or an evening badger watching! Read on for more ideas and information.

  • At Wildside Experience, Richard and Alison Whiteside offer a range of activities in nature awareness and bushcraft suitable for all ages. Why not spend an evening badger watching (£45 per person) or accompany Richard on a spring time dawn chorus walk. Wildside Experience is a 5 minute walk from Windover Farm Cottage. Full details can be found on the separate page HERE.

  • River Cottage HQ is around 40 minutes drive from the cottage and is Hugh Fernley-Whittingstall's base for courses and events ranging from a night's dining and entertainment, through to courses in foraging, curing, gardening, bread making, butchery and more. Also, the River Cottage canteen in Axminster sells local produce and fabulous food.

  • Blackdown Hills Hedge Association is a local group of people working and living on the Blackdown Hills who are dedicated to preserving the craft of hedge laying and other allied skills. Why not tie your stay in with one of the range of courses from traditional hedge laying through to making a blackdown trug or hedgerow chair. I recently made a hedgerow chair!

  • The Old Kennels offer courses on traditional arts and crafts (such as herbal remedies, soap making and book binding). I'm booked to go on a basket weaving course in July!

  • Learn to make luxury chocolates with a professional chocolatier. Full/half day fun courses for all ages and abilities. Take home your gift wrapped creations.

  • Gillys Bakery makes home-baked bread, sweet and savoury using local, organic ingredients wherever possible. Specialising in sourdough. Course enquiries welcome.
